A critical success factor for all businesses is how good they are at selling. Every business is selling something, a product and/or a service, but very few are actually trained in the profession of selling. Even more importantly if you cannot measure the performance of a salesperson then you will be blind to uncovering ways to improve that performance.
Maybe like most business owners you have become so busy working IN the business that there is no time to think about whether the business is optimised to survive a crisis or a recession. There is no time to assess if there is a more efficient way to operate or even how to increase profits. All you have time for is to react to the crisis, it’s survival first. No time to think of profit.
If you don’t know where you’re going, and you don’t know where you’ve been then maybe you’re on the Road to Nowhere!!!
Apologies to Talking Heads for misquoting some lines from one of my favourite songs. The point I hope to get across is that many business owners start a business with no idea of the end point. Imagine building a business with no plan. Imagine going on a flight and the captain has no flight plan. Imagine yourself (after the Pandemic) deciding to go on holidays with your family but you arrive at the airport with nothing booked, no passports, no idea if you have the right clothes, no idea if you have enough money, no idea what type of holiday you want to have….how much fun is your family having now? How much fighting will there be before, during and after the holiday?
